I recently came across a letter to the editor I wrote that was published in this paper in June 2004 under the headline "Don't let Conservatives cause Canada grief."
Sadly my fears concerning the Stephen Harper-Mike Harris connection have proven to be only too true -- especially so thanks to the efforts of Harris's former Ontario cabinet ministers, now federal ministers, John Baird, Tony Clement and Jim Flaherty.

By FREE PRESS NEWS SERVICES SASKATOON - NDP Leader Jack Layton jabbed at the prime minister from the heart of Conservative territory yesterday, lambasting Stephen Harper's stock-buying advice as a sign he'll drive the country into deeper financial trouble. Stepping up his attacks on Harper over the faltering economy, Layton warned Canadians' pensions and homes are at risk and Harper is doing nothing about it. Instead of protecting their jobs and savings, the Tory leader is advising ordinary families to wager their money on plummeting stocks, Layton said.
